A new workstation platform offers innovative solutions for automated liquid handling, from compound management and sample preparation to applications such as drug discovery, genomics, and proteomics.Posted on 16 Feb 2006
The workstation provides optimal precision pipetting and can be upgraded to address initial and future requirements. It employs a modular design and has the ability to treat each sample uniquely.
The Janus automated workstation platform was unveiled by PerkinElmer (Wellesley, MA, USA) at LabAutomation 2006 in Palm Springs (CA, USA) in January 2006. The platform includes three new offerings: the Janus modular dispense technology (MDT) automated workstation with interchangeable dispense heads, which enables miniaturization with 384-tip processing down to 50 nl; the Gripper integration platform, which provides comprehensive labware movement within the Janus deck and to external devices; and the Mini-Janus automated workshop, which offers a single arm option with a smaller nine-position deck, including a MDT interchangeable pipetting system for automated pipetting into 96-, 384-, and 1536-well microplates.
Jonathan Rennert, vice president and general manager of PerkinElmer's Analytical Sciences division, said that the new Janus platform provides a comprehensive platform with extended adaptability and functionality to meet customers' needs for complete assay automation.
Janus is the cornerstone of PerkinElmer's Packard automation and liquid handling portfolio, its next generation of automation and liquid handling instrumentation. Packard automated liquid handling solutions from PerkinElmer are designed to provide laboratories with modular and scalable solutions to meet their needs now and in the future.
