A new DNA-purification kit uses novel chemistry and column design to purify DNA that is virtually devoid of RNA and protein contamination.Posted on 14 Dec 2005
The versaGene DNA cell purification kit was developed by Gentra Systems, Inc. (Minneapolis, MN, USA). The kit is highly scalable and allows purification of very high-quality, double-stranded DNA from as few as 1,000 and up to 25 million cells from the same kit, in as little as 30 minutes. Eluted samples can be used immediately in downstream applications. These include applications such as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) microarrays. Researchers performing CGH assays to aid in the early diagnosis of cancer and genetic diseases also represent a market for the new kit.
"As the need for personalized medicine grows, with its emphasis on individual human genotype mapping, so too grows the need to reduce sample failure in downstream applications,” noted Stephen Rundlett, product manager, versaGene. "Based on our own stringent product development test results, versaGene for DNA Cells does indeed deliver markedly superior performance in even the most demanding applications.”
Gentra Systems is a leading provider of nucleic acid purification technology, instrumentation, and innovation to the global life sciences industries. Product lines include pureGene kits as well as autopure and autotech instruments.
