A new ultrasound research system has been designed for academic, research, and scientific institutions.Posted on 01 Aug 2005
The Sonix RP, developed by Ultrasonix Medical Corp. (Burnaby, Canada), is equipped with an investigational research package that includes pre-beam forming real-time acquisition software, radio frequency (RF) mode, and a software development kit (SDK) for client applications. With flexible control of the complete ultrasound signal path in an open architecture, the unit is the only open research-driven system currently available. Furthermore, the unit provides total control and access to pre- and post-beamformer RF data. In an investigative application, for example, the Sonix RP provides custom filtering, envelope, detection, and compression of acquired data.
The compact size of the unit makes it portable and easy to handle. Along with 80 gigabyte storage space, Sonix RP features high-image quality, front-load CD/DVD drive, and two front-load USB 2.0 drives for maximum data transfer convenience.
"The Ultrasonix research package offers an unparalleled level of control over its scanner, which has proven to be invaluable to my research at the University of Tennessee and it has been a pleasure dealing with their knowledgeable engineering staff,” said Dr. Thaddeus Wilson, assistant professor of radiological physics at the University of Tennessee (Knoxville, TN, USA).
Ultrasonix provides linear, convex-linear, phased, and other specialty transducers. In addition to conventional service support and remote diagnostics, the Sonix RP is capable of software upgrade via the Internet.
