Filters that Streamline Sample Preparation

A family of syringe-less filters is designed to provide a faster and easier way to remove particulates from samples being prepared for high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

The filters, called Mini-UniPrep, are based on patented technology. They reduce the need for consumables such as syringes, sample cups, and transfer containers in sample preparation. Different filters are designed to meet different needs. For customers using robotics to maximize throughput, the Slit Septa Mini-UniPrep filter can be used with current robotics on HPLC instruments. Customers who need to protect samples such as vitamins or catecholamine from light damage can use the Amber Mini-UniPrep. Designed to meet USP specifications for light resistance, this filter prevents photo degradation of light-sensitive samples, using the same colorant as pharmaceutical containers. Housed in a durable polypropylene material, the filters are compatible with all major autosamplers and available in different pore sizes to meet specific sample needs.

"If you add up the time and money saved from cutting multiple steps out of the preparation process, the Whatman Mini-UniPrep not only makes sense from a workflow perspective but also as it affects the bottom line in any lab environment,” noted Dr. Martin Smith, vice president of business development for Whatman Inc. (Clifton, NJ, USA), which developed the filter line.
