New Online Protein Knowledge Base

A new online database called UniProt combines three important databases to become a main information resource for proteomic data. UniPort is the result of work undertaken by the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI), the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB), and the U.S. Protein Information Resource (PIR).

Genomining (Montrouge, France; www.genomining.com), a bioinformatics company and provider of real-time biologic intelligence solutions, has announced that users of its GetDB remote database download and installation product can immediately benefit from UniProt. GetDB allows remotely located databases to be processed, classified, and rendered usable in real-time. It gives users immediate access to UniProt with no need for upgrades or development work and makes sure only the new data are downloaded. GetDB also handles restart after any interruption during downloading and features version control, volume allocation and usage measurement; and management and removal of outdated information.

"Genomining's objective is to bring immediately usable scientific information to our customers and free them from having to continually monitor and classify the sources that are available to them,” said Laurent Voignac, managing director.
