A novel eLearning interface automatically provides a consolidated view of each operator’s point of care testing (POCT) tests performed and competencies completed, along with updated employee information.

The TELCOR (Lincoln, NE, USA) eLearning interface combines three information systems needed to manage operators: a learning management system (LMS), a human resource information system (HRIS, which provided employment status updates to the LMS), and TELCOR QML, which houses the patient and quality control sample information needed to recertify operators and send operator lists to critical POCT devices. By combing the systems, LMS/HRIS errors and omissions associated with manual entry are eliminated.

In addition, College of American Pathologists (CAP), Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), and Joint Commission inspections become more productive and efficient because operator and competency record updates, along with the count of tests performed by each operator, have been combined into one system. Automatically completing competency requirements also allows seamless continuity of patient care when sending operator updates to POCT devices for those who successfully completed their competency requirements, and oversight of those who have not. The TELCOR eLearning Interface will be presented at AACC 2016.

The QML eLearning interface also facilitates operator management by automatically adding new operators; automatically inactivating existing operators; and automatically updating operator demographics such as name and location changes. The system also automatically certifies operators based on samples performed, and can also expand competency components beyond quizzes, such as direct observation completion and status of patient testing, recording and reporting of patient test results, direct observation of instrument maintenance and calibration, and observing problem solving skills.

The American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC; Washington, DC, USA) is an international scientific/medical society of over 8,000 clinical laboratory professionals, physicians, research scientists and more. The AACC annual meeting, which will be held from July 31st to August 4th at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia (USA), features five days of educational sessions on scientific, clinical, technical and management challenges facing laboratory professionals, as well as the world’s largest Clinical Lab Expo.
