A new refrigerated centrifuge that combines extraordinary high capacity with enhanced temperature management in a very compact and ergonomic product design is to be unveiled at the 2016 AACC Annual Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo (Philadelphia, PA, USA).

The Eppendorf (Hamburg, Germany) 5920 R centrifuge, which will be on display in Booth 3636 of the expo, features extraordinary high capacity and performance. Its capacity of up to four x 1,000 milliliter bottles or 52 x 50 milliliter conical tubes makes it the ideal instrument for high-throughput applications.

Centrifuge 5920 R accommodates standard one-liter Nalgene bottles setting a new standard in the tabletop centrifuge segment. Compared to other custom-made one liter bottles the Nalgene bottle is narrow and allows for a better pellet compared to wider bottles. The higher capacity enables the user to process a higher volume in fewer runs. Furthermore, the high-capacity buckets were designed to allow both tubes and plates to be used in the same rotor bucket.

The centrifuge offers a powerful state-of-the-art refrigeration system with advanced temperature management. Dynamic compressor control technology and a FastTemp pro function allows precise and automated pre-cooling based on a pre-programmable time and date.

Centrifuge 5920 R boasts an advanced operating system with outstanding functionality that includes a menu-driven, multi-lingual operation menu with large backlit display, which has the capacity to save up to 99 user-defined programs and has five program keys for easy access to routine programs.

“With laboratories under increasing pressure to increase efficiencies and throughput we understand the challenges that researchers face in their work,” said Peter Schreiner, global product manager centrifugation at Eppendorf. “The very large capacity and precise temperature management offered by the Centrifuge 5920 R means researchers can be assured that not only are their samples safe, but that they are saving time, money, and energy with this system.”
