Greiner Bio-One (Monroe, NC, USA) exhibited its new generation of Sapphire pipette tips at MEDICA 2021, the leading international trade fair for the medical sector. More than 5,000 exhibitors from 70 countries presented their newest products and ideas at this year’s MEDICA which drew 120,000 trade visitors from over 170 countries.

At MEDICA 2021, Greiner presented its new generation of Sapphire pipette tips which are perfect flexibility for laboratory liquid handling and were launched in September. The tips are made of medical polypropylene and benefit from a universal fit on most standard pipettes. They are available in standard, filter, low-retention and filter low-retention versions. By minimizing the adhesion of sample material on the inside of the tip, the low-retention surface ensures maximum precision, even with detergents and other viscous or complex samples. The filter tips reliably prevent the transfer of biological material and aerosols, without this negatively affecting the accuracy of the volume being pipetted. No additives are used when manufacturing the filters. Even after accidental contact, it is therefore possible to continue using samples. In conjunction with Sapphire pipettes, the universal tips offer a fully optimized and harmonized liquid handling solution from a single source. The new pipette tips are produced and packaged at the company’s Austrian plant in Kremsmünster, in a fully automated process that minimizes any potential risk of contamination.

Greiner also showcased its new VACUETTE Virus Stabilization Tube that supports the safe transport and storage of specimens, including COVID-19 swab samples. The company demonstrated how its VACUETTE Virus Stabilization Tube can help alleviate some of the barriers to testing for SARS-CoV-2 that laboratories are experiencing. VACUETTE Virus Stabilization Tubes are intended for the transport and storage of nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swab specimens. Meant for use by healthcare professionals for SARS-CoV-2 testing only, VACUETTE Virus Stabilization Tubes are made of PET with a pre-defined volume of a phosphate buffer saline solution at a pH of 7.4±0.2 to allow for the storage of the SARS-CoV-2 swab specimens for up to 72h at 4°C. The tubes are fitted with VACUETTE Safety Caps and the tube interior is sterile. The product is single use only and can be used on a single patient only. The CE-marked VACUETTE Virus Stabilization Tubes are manufactured according to Greiner’s hygienic standards.
