A new range of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) strip tubes with individually attached caps, simplifies the set-up of PCR and quantitative (Q)PCR reactions, enhances QPCR results, and allows easier and safer access to samples at post-amplification.Posted on 17 Jul 2008
The tubes have individually attached caps, which allow them to be sealed one at a time, making aliquoting of samples much easier. The caps provide an excellent seal, eliminating sample evaporation and ensuring reproducible results. In addition, each cap is clearly labeled on the cap tab to allow easier orientation of the tubes in the machine and on the bench, for improved sample tracking both pre- and post-PCR. After thermal cycling, each sample can be accessed individually, rather than removing an entire cap strip, reducing the risk of cross-contamination.
Dubbed ABgene EasyStrip snap tubes, they were launched by Thermo Fisher Scientific (Epson, UK) and they are available in different formats, depending on the application. For standard PCR reactions, the tubes have domed caps; for fluorescent applications, such as quantitative PCR (QPCR), Ultra Clear Caps tubes provide an optically clear window into the reaction for enhanced detection of the fluorescent signal. Combined with the use of white tubes, for higher signal-to-noise ratio and increased reflection of the fluorescent signal, this ensures highly sensitive and consistent QPCR results.
EasyStrip Snap Tubes are manufactured according to high standards in a clean room environment, eliminating the need for sterilization prior to use. Each batch is certified free from DNase, RNase, and genomic/human DNA, and is application-tested according to stringent quality control (QC) protocols. EasyStrip snap tubes are available in packs of 250 strips.
